Nissan to Participate in the Louis Vuitton Classic in the U.K.

TRAPPES, France, June 4 --

Nissan will exhibit its concept car, JIKOO, at the Louis Vuitton Classic, the world famous concourse event to be held at Waddesdon Manor in the U.K. from Saturday 5 to Sunday 6 June. Mr Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Design, Nissan Motor Company (Tokyo) and Managing Director of Nissan Design Europe Limited (London) will be a member of the judging committee for the third time.

The JIKOO is a compact, open-top two-seater, combining Nissan's sporty heritage and advanced technology with Japan's historical aesthetics and craftsmanship from the Edo (Tokyo's former name) Shougunate era. On the JIKOO's exterior these crafts can be found in a traditional silversmith's technique called "hammered metal" on the body work. Materials such as lacquer and paper ware have been used on the door trim, and tortoiseshell technique has also been used on the steering wheel. The JIKOO will also be entered in the concept category of the competition.

Mr Nakamura said, "It is a great honour and very important for Nissan, a Japanese company operating globally, to be acknowledged in Europe, by being able to participate in such a traditional European event. It is also a pleasure to have an opportunity to show Europeans JIKOO. It is a unique concept combining Japan's traditional culture and craftsmanship with Nissan's modern cutting-edge technology."

JIKOO, first exhibited at Tokyo Motor Show October 2003, will also be exhibited in the Pre-Classic event to be held in the evening on 3 June at the Louis Vuitton shop in New Bond Street in London. For details about the Louis Vuitton Classic, please refer to http://www.vuitton.com
