Exide Technologies to Produce the New Liberator(TM) Low Maintenance Lift Truck Battery in North America

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., June 3 -- Exide Technologies ( http://www.exide.com/ ), a global leader in stored electrical- energy solutions, has added the Liberator(TM) Low Maintenance battery to its line of flooded, tubular-plate industrial lift truck batteries available in North America.

Liberator(TM) Low Maintenance batteries are built with tubular-plate technology, the most widely used type of lift truck battery design in the world.

"Exide Technologies, which has been manufacturing and marketing the Liberator(TM) Low Maintenance batteries in the UK and Europe for the past five years, now is offering this proven technology to our customers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico," said Neil Bright, president of the Industrial Energy Business Group. "This new technology augments the Exide product portfolio in North America to include GNB(R) and Pacific Chloride(R) brand flooded flat-plate and tubular-plate models as well as Champion(R) valve-regulated lead-acid products."

Tubular technology, engineered to deliver increased power and efficiency and maximize battery life, enables Liberator(TM) Low Maintenance batteries to deliver a larger amount of consistent, reliable power than flat-plate batteries of equal size. The result is greater productivity because of a reduced number of battery change-outs and longer lift truck run times. The new plate design also provides more than 70 percent more electrolyte headspace. When combined with low antimony positive grids and an optimized charge profile, the tubular technology reduces water loss during charging and translates into a 90-day watering interval (based on one cycle per day to 80 percent depth of discharge and five-days per week operation).

The battery is designed for use in every major electric lift truck in Class I (sit-down, counter-balanced), Class II (narrow aisle) and Class III (walkie pallet) models.

Liberator(TM) Low Maintenance batteries are available now in three configurations: Standard, Gold, and Platinum.

-- The Standard option is the battery with classic, 1/4-turn, bayonet-
style vent caps for locations with dedicated battery managers who
      prefer manual battery watering.
-- The Gold option, which greatly reduces battery-watering time, includes

an electrolyte level sensor and a single point watering kit suitable
      for most water supply pressures.
-- The Platinum option includes an electrolyte level sensor, a single
point watering kit, and a maintenance package that includes quarterly
watering and annual battery inspection, cleaning, and routine
      maintenance adjustments.

The Liberator(TM) Low Maintenance batteries will be manufactured in the Exide Technologies Kansas City manufacturing facility. Initially, the batteries will be produced in 12-, 24-, 36-, 48-, 72-, and 80-volt sizes and in 85, 100 and 125 ampere-hour/plate ratings.
