NOTES OF INTEREST: The Kansas Lottery $200 Grand will be the 4th appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Kansas Speedway since 2001 when the series debuted as the inaugural event. Typical of most RE/MAX Series entry lists, this year's at Kansas will feature a wide range of talent from veterans to rookies from all walks of motorsports. ARCA veterans entered include 5-time series champion, former Kansas winner and current point leader Frank Kimmel and runner-up in points Billy Venturini, whose father Bill Venturini won RE/MAX Series titles in 1987 and 1991. Jason Jarrett, who won the inaugural RE/MAX Series race at Kansas in 2001, is also entered as is 4-time series winner Mark Gibson and N. Barrington, IL driver Brent Sherman, who finished a career-best 2nd at Kansas in '03. USAC Sprint, Midget and Silver Crown star Boston Reid, a rookie on the RE/MAX Series tour, will make his second series start at Kansas in the ditech.com Chevy Monte Carlo. For Reed, it's all part of a very busy weekend that will see the Indianapolis IN driver compete in a USAC Sprint Car race in Cedar Rapids IA Friday night following ARCA RE/MAX Series practice at Kansas. Then, immediately following Saturday's Kansas Lottery $200 Grand, Reid will be off to Terre Haute IN where he will be competing in a USAC Silver Crown event. Additional stout rookies in the mix include Galesburg IL driver AJ Fike, who also comes from the open-wheel ranks, Apollo PA driver Ryan Hemphill and Sparks NV driver TJ Bell. Fike, coming off a solid 12th place finish at Lowe's, is the current ARCA Rookie of the Year leader while Hemphill has won 2 of the last 3 superspeedway events at Kentucky and Lowe's. In addition, Hemphill was the Pork Pole award winner at Nashville and Lowe's. Bell, currently 8th in overall series points, is second in the Rookie of the Year standings. 18-year-old Brandon Knupp is the youngest driver entered while James Hylton, 69, is the oldest. Of the drivers entered, Kimmel and Jarrett are the only former Kansas winners. Sons of former ARCA champions entered include Billy Venturini and Todd Bowsher, whose father Jack Bowsher won ARCA titles in '63, '64 & '65. Both fathers serve as present-day crew chiefs for their sons. Local drivers entered include longtime ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Frog Hall from Blue Springs MO; Kansas City KS driver Jennifer Jo Cobb, Kansas City MO drivers Scott Traylor and Billy Deckman as well as Roger Moser (Auxvasse MO) and Kevin Gingrich (Topeka KS).
