Progressive Donates an All-Terrain Vehicle to the Albuquerque Police Department; ATV Helps Law Enforcement Search and Patrol Rural Areas

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico--June 2, 2004--Patrolling the rural areas surrounding Albuquerque just got a little easier for the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), thanks to the donation the Progressive group of insurance companies of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The ATV will aid in the APD's patrol and search efforts.

An ATV owned by a Progressive policyholder was lost in Albuquerque and recently recovered by the APD. Since the lost vehicle had already been replaced, it could not be returned to the original owner. The APD expressed an interest in keeping the vehicle, so Progressive repaired, painted and donated the ATV to the department.

"This ATV will be a big help. We have needed one for some time, but our budget just didn't allow for it. Now, we will have better access to outlying areas," said Capt. Conrad Candelaria, West Side Area Commander.

Throughout the year, the ATV will be used to patrol areas such as the West Mesa and the Rio Grande River basin. The ATV will also serve as fast transportation to extinguish small brush fires and aid in search and rescue efforts.

"Being mobile and quick in reaching people is important. We found that out with our Immediate Response Vehicles. We're happy to provide the ATV to the police department because it gives them additional resources to travel on rough terrain. Now they can patrol hard-to-reach areas easily, helping to keep people safe, and that's good," said Charles Sullivan, Special Investigations Unit Manager, Progressive.

The Progressive group of insurance companies, in business since 1937, ranks fourth in the state of New Mexico and third in the country for auto insurance based on premiums written. The companies provide drivers with competitive rates and 24/7, in-person and online service and offer insurance by phone at 1-800-PROGRESSIVE, online at progressive.com and through more than 30,000 independent insurance agencies in the U.S. The Common Shares of the Progressive Corporation, the Mayfield Village, Ohio-based holding company, are publicly traded at NYSE:PGR. More information can be found at progressive.com.

Editor's Note: The ATV will be available at the police department, 5600 Esperanza NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87105, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2004 for photo opportunities. Please contact Capt. Conrad Candelaria at (505) 831-4705.
