EPA Data Confirms Torvec High Start-Up Efficiencies; Fuel Economy Breakthrough Will Be Demonstrated in Gasoline Powered Vehicle

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 2 -- Torvec, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: TOVC.OB) announced today that recent tests conducted under the supervision of the EPA at its Ann Arbor facility demonstrated that Torvec's 12.2 cubic inch displacement hydraulic pump achieved the highest recorded efficiencies at the crucial gas guzzling city start-up phase of vehicle operation. These efficiencies were achieved at engine idling RPM which translates to attaining twenty miles per hour from start-up with a Torvec infinitely variable transmission equipped vehicle. In contrast, all vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions with torque converters produce little torque at such low RPMs, requiring nearly 2500 RPMs to attain twenty miles per hour from start-up. Since it is axiomatic that fewer RPMs directly result in greater fuel efficiencies, Torvec estimates that achieving these efficiencies at such low RPMs will at a minimum increase city MPG to highway MPG, not only with diesel engines, but now with gasoline fueled vehicles. This is critical to the nation's overall gasoline consumption since over 85% of US produced vehicles have automatic transmissions with torque converters. Furthermore, EPA statistics state that 62% of all driving occurs in city conditions.

Based upon these results and automotive industry requests, Torvec will install its infinitely variable transmission in a gasoline powered GM Tahoe SUV. Torvec believes that this installation will demonstrate that its IVT technology is commercially ready for production and utilization in the full spectrum of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles. Torvec is confident that an IVT equipped Tahoe will prove that its infinitely variable transmission provides a comprehensive solution without economic penalty to the pressing issues of:

   * the current gasoline crisis facing the world;

   * compliance with ever tightening environmental emissions standards;

   * persistent consumer preference for SUVs and light trucks.
