GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner to Keynote Detroit Regional Chamber Mackinac Policy Conference, June 4

DETROIT, June 1 -- The Detroit Regional Chamber's annual Mackinac Policy Conference will feature a keynote address by Rick Wagoner, chairman and CEO of General Motors Corp. The theme for this year's conference, June 3-6 at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, is "Global Competitiveness." Wagoner's address, 10 a.m., Friday, June 4, will focus on the future of the automotive industry in Southeast Michigan and the world market.

General Motors Corp., the world's largest vehicle manufacturer, employs about 325,000 people globally. Founded in 1908, GM has been the global automotive sales leader since 1931. GM today has manufacturing operations in 32 countries and its vehicles are sold in 192 countries. In 2003, GM sold nearly 8.6 million cars and trucks, about 15 percent of the global vehicle market. GM's global headquarters are at the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit.

Now in its 24th year, the Mackinac Policy Conference is the state's premier public policy conference. More than 1,700 of Southeast Michigan's business and political leaders will attend the conference to discuss issues of importance to Regional Chamber and the state.

Other highlights of the conference include addresses by Pfizer President and CEO Dr. Hank McKinnell, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and the ever- popular Big 4 -- comprised of the county executives and the mayor of Detroit.
