GMAC/Trenton Forging #5 GTO Lime Rock Post Race Report
Team Stays Focused on Development
Lakeville, Conn – May 31, 2004 Starting 23rd and finishing 18th might
not be what Stu Hayner had in mind for the #5 GMAC Commercial
Finance/Trenton Forging GTO. But with the challenge of developing a new
car with a new team in a new series, it’s hard not to come away
pleased.
“Sure, we’d love to be up front slugging it out with the Audis and
Cadillacs,” smiled Hayner. “If our heads appear down, it’s not from
disappointment… it’s commitment. We knew what we were taking on when we
chose the path of developing a new car… but that’s what we wanted. We
wanted something different and we made the commitment to stick with it.
We’ve got the right crew, the right partners and the right attitude.”
The Lime Rock start was the second for the Autosport Development team.
With just six weeks development time, the car debuted in Sebring and
retired with a few laps to go due to a broken suspension part.
“The car was much better prepared for this event,” stated David Moxlow
of Trenton Forging. “Things are moving forward as planned. We felt the
car was greatly improved from what we learned at Sebring and the car is
getting closer to being competitive. The important thing for us was
that the car ran every round and did not suffer any failures. We know
what else we want to work on and where we have to improve. Our major
issues are front down force, straight-line speed and weight. We need to
get the car to a point where Stu can push it around and be aggressive.
We’re not there yet… we have steps we’ll implement prior to Mid-Ohio.”
Monday’s SCCA SPEED GT Championship Round Two race, part of the
Mohegan Sun Grand Prix, will be broadcast on SPEED Channel Sunday, June
6 at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) Round Three of the 2004 season will be June
25-27 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
