Indy 500 Starts...Then Stops...Then Restarts Lap 29 - R Gordon Flies the Coop

INDIANAPOLIS May 30, 2004;Dave Chess writing for RIS reported that after a one hour and 47 minute delay the race was restarted at lap 29. Wheldon led Castroneves, Kanaan, Rice and Hornish Jr. The only Indy 500s to be restarted on the same day after a rain delay are the 1926, 2001 and 2004 races

A. J. Foyt IV has returned to the race after his crew was able to repair damage to his car caused by a crash in turn one on lap10.

Robby Gordon left the Speedway for the NASCAR race in Charlotte. Jaques Lazier took over for Gordon as pilot of the Meijer/Coca-Cola Dallara-Chevrolet.
