OVERLAND PARK, Kan., May 27 -- During the Tenth Annual Memorial Day Classic Acathletic(R) Track Meet, Chrysler Financial will award seven Missouri and Kansas high school students to attend a nine-week SAT or ACT study course to prepare them for college entrance examinations. The Memorial Day Classic takes place May 29-30 at the Hoezel Stadium at Center High School in Kansas City, Mo. The Chrysler Financial Acathletic Scholarships will be awarded during an awards ceremony on Sunday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m.

"Supporting youth education is vitally important to Chrysler Financial as it is the foundation for empowering professionals entering today's workforce," said Bob Gay, Senior Manager - Kansas City Customer Contact Center for DaimlerChrysler Services North America. "By sponsoring the Acathletic Scholarship, we hope to inspire young adults to embrace higher education, expand their knowledge and become competitive in their personal career goals."

To qualify for the Chrysler Financial Acathletic Scholarship, applicants must be high school juniors or seniors, have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, must demonstrate commitment to educational advancement, community involvement, participate in high school sports and be a Memorial Day Classic athletic participant.

"Acathletic is a term emphasizing the relationship between academics and athletics," said Kenneth D. Ferguson, Associate Professor of Law - University of Missouri, Kansas City Law School. "An Acathlete is committed to academic achievement and supports academic goals through athletic involvement. As founder of the Memorial Day Classic, I am pleased DaimlerChrysler Services is supporting this unique approach to promoting both athletic spirit and academic excellence," said Ferguson.

Students benefiting from the scholarship will learn basic skills in preparation for college entrance exams. In addition, students benefit from an orientation to the college admission process, strategies for computerized test taking, performance feedback and home workbook practice exercises.

The Chrysler Financial Acathletic Scholarship further emphasizes DaimlerChrysler Service's efforts to support young people in their quest for educational advancement.
