PAUL NEWMAN AND MICHAEL BROCKMAN ANNOUNCE ENTRY INTO AGT

Wilton, CT- Paul Newman and teammate Michael Brockman today announced their entry into the American GT Challenge series. Newman will pilot the number 79 Corvette, while Brockman will compete in the number 77 Camaro. The duo will make their AGT debut during the July event at Lime Rock Park. Newman is no stranger to Lime Rock, having won several times at the 1.53-mile, eight-turn permanent road course. Schedules permitting they will compete at other venues as well in 2004. The duo will undertake a more complete 2005 AGT schedule.


Everyone is aware of Newman’s long, competitive career in motorsports. A quote about Michael Schumacher that could just as easily apply to Paul, "Michael has been around Formula 1 for over 12 years and usually after that long you begin to slow down, but not Michael, he just gets faster." Same can be said of Mr. Newman.

Newman has four national titles at the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs, SCCA’s National Championship races. Newman earned the first of his SCCA titles in 1976 in the D-Production class. He also won championships in the 1979 C-Production class and earned the title in GT-1 class in 1985 and 1986. Newman competed and finished ninth in the 2002 SCCA Runoffs, in the GT-1 class. Along with his passion for sports car racing, Newman has competed in stock cars, and is co-owner with Carl Haas of Newman/Haas Racing in the Champ Car World Series.

For Brockman, the AGT presents an opportunity to compete in a highly competitive series not marked with politics. "The AGT is headed in the right direction," says Brockman. "There are great competitors involved and there are no politics or favoritism. This series is providing an atmosphere where racing and parity are the priority."

Brockman has teamed with Newman on several occasions in races such as the Rolex 24 at Daytona and he competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2000. Brockman’s Lime Rock resume includes racing a Lotus Turbo Esprit in the Supercar Series and in IMSA Camel Lights. Michael has competed in V8 powered sedans throughout his career as well.

The American GT Challenge uses purpose built tube frame chassis cars, power by a V-8 & V-6 engine, with composite bodies, replicating series produced American touring or grand touring cars competing exclusively on Goodyear Racing Tires. For more information visit www.americangt.com.
