FTS Industries Signs Agreement to Use TransCore's CarrierPoint Software

HARRISBURG, Pa.--May 2, 20047, 2004--

Logistics Software Will Help 3PL Optimize Carrier Selection and Management as Equipment Capacity Tightens

FTS Industries, a third party logistics (3PL) provider, has signed an agreement to use TransCore's CarrierPoint(R) logistics software.

FTS will use TransCore's CarrierPoint product suite compliance, monitoring, collaboration, and integration tools to centralize freight management for shipper clients. The CarrierPoint product is an application service provider (ASP) approach, which will allow multiple FTS sites to operate with oversight from the company's headquarters in Somerville, N.J.

"We now have a way to measure the performance of carriers and make more logical decisions about carrier selection," said Jerry Catana, vice president of the FTS Logistics Group. "Everything used to be done with phone calls and e-mails at each location. Now we have greatly enhanced the best way to select carriers based on previous performance.

"TransCore's CarrierPoint product gives us a report card on carriers. We know what their historic pick-up and delivery performance has been and we know how cooperative they have been. If we tendered them 100 loads and they only took five, that tells us something and it influences our decision when we are tendering freight again."

The CarrierPoint software will keep records of FTS' core carriers and will automatically tell FTS personnel which carriers are available to cover a certain load and it will use business rules to select the best carrier for the load. At a time when industry factors are pointing to tighter equipment capacity and higher rates, the new software will allow FTS to secure rates which match the carrier's ability to deliver.

Unlike enterprise software solutions, which require complex implementations and are difficult to update, the CarrierPoint web-based logistics software offers reduced up-front cost, rapid implementation, and the opportunity to add new modules as the users change and grow.

FTS will use the management tools included in the CarrierPoint product suite to generate request for quotes (RFQs); Carrier Contract Management; AutoRate, a shipment rating tool which provides automated least-cost dispatch and rate management; WebDispatch which allows shippers and carriers to conduct their contract freight business directly; Dynamic Shipping MarketPlace (DSM) for offering shipments, communicating prices, making commitments, and sharing information; DockMaster, a Web-based dock door scheduling tool; and AutoPay which automates the freight payment process.
