ACDelco Undercar Targets Vintage Corvette Owners In Texas
DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TEXAS - ACDelco put in a discreet appearance at the 15th Annual Lone Star Corvette Classic at the Texas Motor Speedway, Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, May 14-15. The marketer of aftermarket replacement parts contributed a wide variety of Corvette UnderCar replacement parts for a charity raffle conducted by event organizer The Lone Star Corvette Club, the largest Corvette club in the United States.
This is the second year that ACDelco has participated in the event by donating UnderCar products for charity raffle. Among the parts donated for this year's raffle were a rack-and-pinion kit, steering pump, brake pads, rotors, support struts, tie rods, and sway bar repair kits. All told, the parts have a market value totaling more than $3,000. But, for the raffle winners, the value of restoring a vintage Corvette is priceless.
Corvette Corner, an ACDelco Total Service Support (TSS) provider in Rowlett, Texas, one of the event's permanent sponsors, initiated ACDelco's presence at the Classic. Approximately 600 Corvettes are displayed each year to an estimated 2004 attendance of 2500-3000.
Proceeds for the raffle go to the Texas Motor Speedway Children's Charity and the National Corvette Museum. Each year an additional local charity is selected to receive remaining funds. The 2004 charity is Equest Riding Academy, Wylie, Texas, which provides therapeutic riding classes for children and adults with physical, mental and emotional disabilities.
Honorary event attendees included Dave Hill, GM chief engineer for Corvette; Dick Guldstrand, design and development principal in Corvettes of the '60s and '70s; and Dollie Cole, widow of Ed Cole, another former principal in Corvette design and development. In addition, Chevrolet Division provided a new Corvette C6 for display.
