Exide Sponsors New NASCAR Radio Program

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., May 24, 2004 -- Exide Technologies ( www.exide.com ), a global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, has extended its NASCAR relationship into national radio.

Exide, marketer of "The official battery of NASCAR," is one of three sponsors of NASCAR Performance Live, a new weekly radio program for NASCAR fans. Created by NASCAR Automotive Aftermarket, the program is a live, one- hour talk show, airing Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the national satellite radio XM channel 144 and on MRN radio affiliates. MRN radio is the voice of NASCAR.

The weekly program features NASCAR crew chiefs discussing how the technical aspects of race cars relate to consumers' cars. Transcending the purely technical aspects of the sport, NASCAR Performance Live also spotlights the team side of NASCAR racing, showcasing crew chiefs, pit crew members, spotters, engine builders and the men and women at the race shop. It allows listeners to know and appreciate the people who make NASCAR teams perform at the highest levels at the racetrack, week in and week out.

MRN radio broadcasts to more than 700 affiliates nationwide. NASCAR describes XM satellite radio as the fastest growing audio product in history, with the subscriber base growing from 28,000 in 2001 to a projected 2.8 million by the end of 2004.

"The program gives Exide the opportunity to have NASCAR spokespeople position our products to the expanding audience of listeners who subscribe to XM and the racing fans who follow NASCAR on MRN radio," said David G. Enstone, President of the Exide Technologies Transportation Business Group. "The sponsorship of NASCAR Performance Live complements the Exide NASCAR program, providing greater leverage for our existing commitments," he said.

The premium Exide NASCAR Select(R) is the official battery of NASCAR. Race-tested and off-road proven, this maintenance-free automotive starting battery is engineered to deliver maximum performance under the toughest highway or off-road conditions. In addition, Exide has relationships with Ward Burton's #0 Hass/CNC Racing Chevrolet; with Reiser Racing, as associate sponsor of Matt Kenseth's #17 Ford; with Tommy Baldwin Racing and the #6 Dodge, which will be driven by four drivers in 2004; and with Innovative Motorsports and driver Hank Parker's #21 Toyota.
