Holtom victorious in American GT Series!
Control Microsystems SCADAPack Corvette driver Jim Holtom wins at Mosport
MOSPORT ONTARIO - Ottawa racer Jim Holtom completed his clean sweep of the
Victoria Day Weekend American GT Series event, by winning the first ever
Canadian round of the AGT series. Holtom steered his Control Microsystems
SCADAPack Corvette into Mosport's historic victory lane after a very
entertaining race.
"This was a very difficult race to win," Holtom said while on the top step
of the podium. "Most of the credit should go to my Georgian Motorsports
Team, who told me to stay out when it started to rain."
The race, which started in dry conditions, saw Holtom take a commanding
lead early, only to be brought back to the rest of the field when a full
course yellow was displayed for a car that had spun and stopped in turn 1.
"I had built up a good cushion over Charlie [Webster], but the yellow
erased that lead."
Shortly after going back to green flag racing, the rain came. "The rain
started in turn 5 first, but the rest of the track was still fairly dry,"
Holtom said. "Then it became worse, and I wanted to stop for rain tires.
The team told me to stay out, as they had been told by race control that
the event would be shortened."
Holtom sloshed his way around for several more laps, hoping to see the
checkered flag each time he came down the front straight. "These cars on
slicks in the rain are a real handful. I just tried to hang on. I don't
think I have ever been so happy to see a checkered flag!"
With the win, Holtom and his Control Microsystems SCADAPack Corvette
completed a clean sweep of the weekend, and made history by being the first
Canadian driver to win an AGT event.
"This series has real potential. It is a series designed for the teams and
drivers of these very popular tube framed, V8 powered GT cars. I hope that
we will be able to do more AGT events this year."
