Trail Motors 358/360 Sprint Open Challenge at SSP (WB)

Trail Motors 358/360 Sprint Car Open Challenge at SSP on Thursday
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (May 23, 2004) – On Thursday night, May 27, the 358/360
Sprint Cars from Pennsylvania and all bordering states will invade the Susquehanna
Speedway Park for the Trail Motors 358/360 Sprint Car Open Challenge event
paying $1,200 to the winner. The night will also feature a return visit of the
Central PA Legends Cars and the weekly excitement of the popular Xtreme Enduro
Stock Cars on the 1/2–mile Newberrytown oval. Last week, Mark Smith from
Newville picked up his first career SSP win as Columbia’s Tom Johns became the
first repeat winner in the Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars.
The Trail Motors 358/360 Open Comp Sprint Car Challenge will be 25 laps with
some added bonuses. Every entrant in the May 27th show will be eligible to
win $1,500 at the August 12 Trail Motors 358/360 Open Comp Show only if they
enter the May 27th event. If they only compete in the August 12 show, then they
will win $1,200. All drivers will declare which rules they are competing
under as they enter the pit gate at the number draw and must abide by those rules.
An open tire rule is in effect except for those competing for points under
their declared organization. The top twelve qualifiers will redraw for
starting positions in the feature event. In addition, Trail Motors is offering a
$500 bonus to any driver that can win both the May 27 and August 12 events making
a possible $2,000 payday for many drivers.
The Xtreme Enduro Stock Car Pepsi Challenge will feature Johns along with XSC
points leader Charlie Pennsinger of Shippensburg, Wellsville’s Michael
Goodwin, Carlisle’s Allan Miller and Curtis Nichols from Aberdeen, MD. Pennsinger
picked up yet another “double money” purse when he finished fifth coming from
the back in last week’s feature. The return of the Rock It Pizza School Bus
Challenge will also continue with 358/360 drivers will take their turn at the
big yellow bus on the highbanks of SSP.
Many activities for the kids and new traditions have also begun at SSP which
include all children 12 and under being able to visit victory lane after the
Sprint Car feature to have their picture as a group with the winning driver. A
picture from last week’s event can be found on www.sspracing.net under May 20
photos.
Gates open in the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at
5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30
p.m. Race fans can expect a fast paced 2 ½ hour program each and every night
(and as coined by a local reporter "Done by 10."). Grandstand ticket prices are
Adults (18 & older) $10.00; Teens (13-17) $6.00; Children (6-12) $2.00; and
Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices have been reduced to $20.00 with
a reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders. A track license is
$25.00 for the year.
Entry forms for the June 3. One-on One Street Car Drags can be found at
www.sspracing.com under rules or contact the SSP office. This is a competition
between street legal cars and trucks right off the street. Races will be from a
dead start with two participants starting side-by-side. They will take one
lap around the track with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser
eliminated from the competition. The final race will see the two “survivors”
in a winner-take-all paying $250.00. Jason Goodling from York Haven has
entered his 1990 Eagle Talon and Lancaster’s Ken Johns will compete in his 1985
Pontiac Station Wagon. Enter now because the number of entries is limited.
Also, with the huge amount of interest for the June 10 Great American School
Bus Race, SSP will be selling advance tickets at a discounted rate of $10.00
per ticket. At the gate, the general admission price will be $12.00. Ticket
may be purchased at intermission during Thursday night racing events or by
calling the SSP office at (717) 292-1696. There are also buses available for
purchase by contacting Todd Fisher at the SSP office.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles
NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information, contact
the speedway offices at (717) 292-1696 or email toddafish@aol.com.
