XM Satellite Radio Driver Bryan Herta Suffers Incident at
IMS
Incident Ends XM Satellite Radio Driver Bryan Herta's
Practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 21, 2004) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta
made contact with the wall for the second time this month during practice today at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Herta was running in traffic to simulate race conditions when there was a failure
of the right rear wishbone causing his car to spin in Turn 3.
Herta was unhurt in the accident and was immediately cleared to drive by Dr.
Henry Bock of the IRL Medical staff. The XM Satellite Radio crew now faces the
daunting challenge of repairing the broken car before the final practice before the race
on Carburetion Day (Thursday, May 27). The team will need to repair the car because it
is the entry that qualified 23rd for the Indy 500 this past Sunday.
The XM Satellite Radio team will return to the track on Caburetion Day this
coming Thursday for the final practice before the running of the 88th Indianapolis 500 on
Sunday, May 30. The Indy 500 will be televised live on ABC Sports beginning at noon
EDT.
Bryan Herta, Driver, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I was going down the backstretch and it felt like the right rear part of the car let
go. I tried to save it and thought I could for a second. I thought I'd let the car brush up
against the wall, but it whipped around and we took the hit. We'll be back out there in
the XM Satellite Radio car, ready to run on Thursday."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We had one more run to do today for the XM Satellite Radio car. We were just
checking one more change in the setup. Indianapolis is a strange place and sometimes
it jumps out and bites you. The right rear wishbone broke on the car and that is what
caused the accident. We've been in deeper holes, and we've got a large pool of
resources in both parts and manpower. We are going to bounce right back and you'll
see us on Thursday."
