PORTLAND, OR., May 18, 2004 - NayKid Racing rolled into its home track-
Portland International Raceway (PIR)- this weekend for the Oregon May
National with a streak of dominating victories in the Sports Car Club of
America (SCCA) T1 class. A light but constant rain fell on the NayKid
steamroller as the three KUMHO Tire/ Suburban Chevrolet/ Redline Oil/
Kodiak Racing Wheels/ CORSA Exhaust Chevrolet Corvette Z06s were
positioned for the start of Saturday's race. 

 

At the front of the grid, owner/ driver Scott B. White, Puyallup, Wash.,
won the pole for the race resetting his own 2003 track record by over
1.3 seconds with a time of 1.23.1 seconds. Cindi Lux, Aloha, OR., who
was just two tenths behind in her No. 78 Vette, sat next to White with
the No. 75 Ryan Snodgrass, Kirkland, Wash. in third. Lux and White
looked more like bitter rivals rather than teammates as they battled in
the rain for the front-spot lap-after-lap. On the white flag lap, White
led Lux until the No. 3 slipped slightly in the rainy conditions. Lux
took advantage of the split second opportunity and edged White at the
checkered flag taking her second consecutive T1 victory of the season.
Snodgrass came home third. 

 

To put an explanation point on the weekend, NayKid Racing entered Lux
and White into an ITE class event on Sunday while Snodgrass remained in
T1. Starting near the back of the 60-car field, White and Lux fought
their way passed the pack to take the top two spots, respectively,
overall in that event while Snodgrass took his first ever T1 class
victory.  

 

Cindi Lux: "Saturday was a good, old fashion Northwest rain race. It
wasn't wet enough to make the change to a full wet setup. I had a blast!
I just love racing in the rain and I know, being from the Northwest,
Scotty does too. Scotty's car stepped out a tad bit on the last corner
and that was enough to take the win. We are running each other as hard
as we can this year every single race. We are great friends but that
friendship takes a backseat when we are on track. You have to have a
tremendous amount of trust with the other driver to race like we did!
The KUMHO Tires were once again awesome. It was also icing on the cake
to give Ohlins [Ohlins Shock Absorbers] their first T1 win in a C5
Corvette."

 

Scotty B. White: "That was Cindi's second win of the season and that's
about enough. I'm really jacked-up for the rest of the year. I was very
pleased with the times we were running. There was pretty much a dry line
but it wasn't completely dry and definitely very wet off line and we
were still running within a tenth of the track record. You just didn't
want to be in a position where the other one could dive in and make you
move off line. I was leading on the last lap and the car stepped a
little and I had to breathe the throttle and Cindi won by about ten
inches. It was awesome. I don't want to sound cocky but I'm gaining
confidence with each weekend. It was a stellar weekend. It is good to
race at home." 

 

NayKid Racing has won each of the five 2004 SCCA T1 races it has
entered, swept the podium three times and broken the track record at
every track this year. They won 11 of 13 T1 races entered in 2003,
earned 15 podium finishes, 11 pole positions and set six track records.
Since its creation in 1998, NayKid has earned six SCCA division T1
titles, as well as five SCCA Pro Solo Championships and seven Solo II
titles. The team made history at Mosport in 1999 becoming the first
Corvette team to win a SPEED World Challenge GT race. White finished as
runner-up in Rookie of the Year honors that same year. Over the course
of his two season participation in SPEED World Challenge GT, White
finished in the top-10, an amazing 78% of the time!
