Mitsubishi Motors to close Pajero factory in Gifu

TOKYO May 17, 2004; Japan Today reported that Mitsubishi Motors Corp is considering closing a Pajero sports utility plant in Japan as part of a 450 billion yen restructuring plan to revive the struggling automaker, according to an outline of the strategy obtained Sunday.

The automaker plans to shift production of the popular sports vehicle from the plant in Sakahogi, Gifu Prefecture, which is owned by Pajero Manufacturing Co, a Mitsubishi subsidiary, to the Mitsubishi plant in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, sources familiar with the new restructuring strategy said.
