Indy 500 Driver Bryan Herta Fastest on Second Day

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 16, 2004) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta was
the fastest qualifier during the second day of qualifications for the 88th running of the
Indianapolis 500.  Herta posted a four-lap average speed of 219.871 miles per hour and
earned the 23rd starting position.
Herta qualified in the #7T XM Satellite Radio Honda-powered Dallara after his
primary car was damaged during yesterday's qualifying attempt.  Though his speed was
the 13th fastest overall in qualifying, Herta will start 23rd because 22 cars made the race
on the first day of qualifications.
Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon and ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti
both earned front row starting spots yesterday after posting the second and third
quickest four-lap averages, respectively.  Herta's other teammate, Team 7-Eleven driver
Tony Kanaan, will start fifth.
Practice resumes for the Indianapolis 500 on Wednesday, May 19.

Bryan Herta, Driver, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"The XM Satellite Radio crew did a great job getting this car ready.  My engineer
Martin Pare knew what I needed today.  We didn't need a car that would run 221 (mph),
we needed a consistent 219 (mph) car.  That's what he gave me and it just feels great to
get it over with and get in the show, now we need to worry about our race setup.  I told
the guys the first couple of laps going out were hard.  I didn't feel bad getting in the car,
but that first time through Turn 1 it all came rushing back.  You just have to push it back
down and the old comfortable feelings start to come back."

George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I'm really proud of the XM Satellite Radio team and I've got to say 'hats off' to
Bryan.  He did a great job out there today. Martin (Pare, race engineer) gave Bryan a
good comfortable car and we were able to get it qualified.  Now we will go back to
working on our race setup, so we can move up through the field and join our
teammates."
