TEAM 7-ELEVEN'S KANAAN QUALIFIES FIFTH FOR 88TH INDIANAPOLIS 500

          SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 15, 2004) - Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan turned in a four-lap average
speed of 221.200 miles per hour on his second qualifying attempt Saturday to lock down the fifth starting
position for the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500.
          Kanaan, who waved off his first attempt in the #11 Team 7-Eleven Honda-powered Dallara, entered
Saturday's pole qualifications with the best practice speed of the month and backed it up with his third top-
five qualifying performance in three Indianapolis 500 appearances.
          Buddy Rice, who won the pole for the Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series opener at Homestead-
Miami Speedway, captured the pole for the "500" with a four-lap average speed of 222.024 miles per hour.
Kanaan's Andretti Green Racing teammates, Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon and ArcaEx driver
Dario Franchitti, rounded out the front row with speeds of 221.524 and 221.471, respectively. Honda-
powered cars swept not only the front row, but also the next four positions, led by Bruno Junqueira in fourth
(221.379 miles per hour), Kanaan in fifth and Adrian Fernandez (220.999 miles per hour).
          A total of 22 cars are currently qualified for the Indianapolis 500. Time trials resume tomorrow at 12
p.m. (EST).

          "We tried everything and were really focused on winning the pole. But, the whole Team 7-Eleven
team did a great job. The weather conditions changed a little bit, but that is the way it goes. The whole
Andretti Green Racing team did a great job today. There is no shame in starting from the second row at
Indianapolis."

          "After this morning's practice, we thought we had a pretty good car and thought we might have a
shot at the pole. It was a little risky to wave our first qualifying attempt, but we really wanted to chase the
pole in the Team 7-Eleven car. It was a bit of a gamble, but we just didn't quite get it right. It's still a great job
by everybody on Tony's team and everybody at AGR. I'm very proud of everybody and very proud of
Honda."
