Epic Data Announces the Appointment of New Chairman of its Board of Directors

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--May 12, 2004--Epic Data International Inc. (TSX: EKD) today announced the appointment of Mr. Derek Douglas as Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective May 1, 20042, 2004.

Mr. Douglas, who has served as a member of the Epic Data Board for a total of 14 years, was formerly Senior Vice President of both the Working Opportunity Fund and GrowthWorks Capital Ltd. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President of Ventures West Management Inc.

On accepting the appointment, Mr. Douglas said, "I welcome the opportunity to increase my involvement with Epic Data that this appointment affords, and look forward to assisting in the future growth of the company."

Former Chairman, Lyle Wharton, is standing down to spend more time on family and personal pursuits. Mr. Wharton was appointed to the Epic Data's Board in February 1997 and served as Chairman since March 2002. Peter Murphy, President & CEO said, "The Board members extend their thanks to Mr. Wharton for his valuable contribution over the last seven years, and we wish him a long and happy retirement."
