DETROIT, May 12, 2004 -- Alcan Inc. has received Ford Motor Company's Recognition of Achievement World Excellence Award for its superior performance in 2003. The World Excellence Awards provide annual recognition based on quality, cost and delivery performance. Alcan was honored with a Recognition of Achievement Award for Environmental Leadership in acknowledgment of its demonstrated environmental achievement and innovation.
"For achieving the highest level of performance, we gratefully recognize Alcan for its exceptional contributions and efforts," said Tony Brown, Ford vice president, Global Purchasing.
"We're very pleased to be honored for our progressive environmental protection efforts," said Martha Brooks, president and CEO of Alcan Rolled Products Americas and Asia. "We are ever-mindful of our responsibility to use resources wisely and are deeply appreciative of this recognition. Alcan's Global Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction program, which began in 2000, has surpassed expectations with average annual GHG reductions of more than a million tons. In partnership with Ford, we have also instituted North America's first closed-loop recycling program for aluminum automotive sheet, maximizing aluminum's intrinsic value and recyclability."
Recognition of Achievement Awards are given to Ford suppliers who impact customer satisfaction by providing significant contributions in key areas: Environmental Leadership, Consumer Focused Technology and Consumer Driven 6- Sigma Supplier Achievement. Forty-two suppliers from 16 countries won awards in various categories. Recognition of Achievement Awards went to eight suppliers.
