IRVINE, Calif.--May 1, 20040, 2004--HiEnergy Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: HIET) today announced that the Company has been featured in ScientificAmerican.Com, an online division of the publication, Scientific American Magazine.

The piece by Frank Vizard entitled "The Boom in Bomb Detection," highlights the company's bomb detection technology and is supplemented with a photograph of HiEnergy's CarBomb Finder, accompanied by a caption that asserts, "(CarBomb Detector)...irradiates the trunk of a car with fast neutrons, revealing the chemical signatures of its contents."

Vizard notes that after the bombings in Madrid, Spain this past March that "bomb detection has a higher-than-ever priority" and continues by stating, "unfortunately, harmless items such as a jar of peanut butter or a fruitcake appear suspicious as well, generating double-digit rates of false positives and contributing to the long delays travelers experience." Dr. Bogdan Maglich, HiEnergy's CEO and Chief Scientific Officer is quoted as he emphasizes the intrinsic shortcomings of current devices, "X-ray detectors are chemically blind...They are unable to detect explosives. They are not chemical specific."

HiEnergy Technologies, Inc. along with non-stoichiometric developers such as InVision Technologies and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) was one of the detection innovators profiled in the piece. Stoichiometric explosive detectors such as HiEnergy's CarBomb Finder, provide the remote deciphering of chemical formulas through steel using advanced technology with fast neutrons and gamma rays. According to HiEnergy's knowledge, the Stoichiometer is the only known device that can decode the chemical formulas of substances non-invasively through steel and on-line. Such specificity may decrease the rate of false positives, which contributes to the delays at inspection points.

About HiEnergy Technologies, Inc.

HiEnergy's Stoichiometric CarBomb Finder 3C3 is the company's first device to be commercialized. HiEnergy believes its stoichiometric technology also has potential application in various other related and discrete markets, including the detection of smaller bombs, unexploded ordinance detection, landmine detection, airport security screening, bio-weapons detection, contraband detection, and chemical and petrochemical industry applications. Dr. Maglich and HiEnergy have developed the technology through several years of research funded by both the private sector and contracts from the Department of Defense and U.S. Customs.
