Lord Corporation Announces 6,500 Milestone for Graduates of I-Car Certified Fusor 001
CARY, N.C., May 6, 2004 -- Lord Corporation, maker of Fusor(R) Automotive Repair Adhesives -- the leading metal and composite bonding solution for automotive body repair -- has announced that more than 6,500 students have graduated from their Fusor 001 Metal and Plastic Bonding/Repair program.
Lord Corporation is the first adhesive company to be certified to offer such curriculum by the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) through the Industry Training Alliance program and has held this status since 2001. Formed by I-CAR in 2000, the Industry Training Alliance brings together technical training providers to optimize the educational efforts of the collision industry. Technicians who complete the hands-on Fusor 001 Bonding/Repair Curriculum qualify to earn I-CAR Gold Class Points, while learning valuable skills which improve quality and reduce cycle times in the repair process.
Lord Corporation also was the first adhesive company to achieve certification as a Corporate Training Provider with the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) association.
In addition to a growing line of products, Lord Corporation has a long-standing reputation for training. According to Debbie Douglass, Director of the Lord Institute -- the company's accredited training organization which was founded in 1994 -- continuing education is an integral component of Lord's service. Lord Corporation was the first manufacturing company in Pennsylvania to have a private license to educate and has since expanded its training venues to customers and partners worldwide.
"The Fusor 001 training was developed so auto body technicians would have consistent training throughout the industry," said Douglass. "Vocational and post-secondary schools now have a ready curriculum to teach bonding skills to future technicians. Our hands-on programs are industry sanctioned and their longevity proves their value."
Nick Gervase, a zone manager for Lord Corporation's Fusor Automotive Repair Adhesives, accredits the strength of the Fusor 001 training to Lord's more than 20 years of service to the industry. According to Gervase, the first sale of a Fusor repair product was to General Motors in the 1980s. Lord Corporation had been supplying product to the OEM for the assembly of the Chevrolet Lumina, Pontiac Trans Sport and Oldsmobile Silhouette MPVs, and General Motors turned to Fusor for a needed repair solution.
Gene Skaggs, shop foreman for Billy Ray's Body Shop in Wilson, North Carolina -- located approximately 30 miles east of Raleigh -- said beyond better products and improved time-cycles, he is most impressed with the training and continuing education offered by Lord Corporation.
"We take pride in offering state-of-the-art service," said Skaggs, "so the hands-on demonstrations and ongoing classes offered by Fusor really make a difference. Further, the ability to earn continuing education points through I-CAR is a plus."
Gene Lopez, Director of Development for Seidner's Collision in Duarte, Calif., first heard about Fusor more than a decade ago but decided to use Fusor after receiving a service bulletin from General Motors in 2002. And, for the last 18 months, Seidner's has used Fusor products exclusively. Lopez touts the superior product line and the I-CAR Alliance Training program as key reasons Seidner's selected Lord Corporation.
"With eight locations and more than 185 employees, training and consistency are key," said Lopez. "During the last 18 months alone, Fusor has presented two training seminars for our team. Their willingness to train is the reason we have their full line of products in our stores. "
With almost 40 years of experience in the auto body industry and currently in his second term on the I-CAR International Board of Directors, Ed Staquet, Senior Technical Service Representative for Fusor, said Lord Corporation is committed to continuing their leadership role in training.
"Lord currently has certified instructors across the country," said Staquet, a certified trainer for both I-CAR and ASE. "The Fusor 001 curriculum is in high demand and we are committed to continuing to serve the industry by providing quality and inexpensive hands-on training."
