Delphi Shows Forewarn Lane Departure Warning in Europe
PARIS, May 4, 2004 -- Delphi Corp. demonstrated its Forewarn Lane Departure Warning System at a media event held here today at Mortefontaine, France.
The Delphi system is designed to help alert drivers to unintentional lane changes caused by lack of driver attention. The Delphi system uses vision technology to detect roadway markers ahead of the vehicle to determine the heading and lateral position in the lane.
"The Delphi Lane Departure Warning" is aimed at detecting driver error and helping to prevent one of the most common causes of accidents," said Volker Barth, Delphi president Europe, Middle East & Africa. "Lane Departure Warning will be an aid to some of the problems caused by driver inattention or distraction."
The system helps drivers stay alert by providing audible, tactile and/or driver warnings to enhance driver safety. The camera-based system mounts behind the windshield to detect roadway lane markers. Delphi can configure the system to meet OEM requirements. The system is disabled by driver activation of the vehicle's turn signals and can be turned off manually or to fit other OEM requirements.
The system can work in conjunction with Delphi's other Forewarn collision warning technologies such as adaptive cruise with forward alert, side detection and back-up aid to enhance overall safety. Delphi was first to market with its adaptive cruise control in 2000 and has since won numerous awards with its other Forewarn line of radar, laser and ultrasonic sensor products.
