Lucky Number Seven: Mazda Sales See Double-Digit Increase Once Again

IRVINE, Calif., May 3, 2004 -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported sales of 21,679 vehicles in April -- a 10.2 percent increase versus the same period last year. April's sales results mark Mazda's seventh consecutive month of double-digit sales increases over the prior year. Overall, Mazda's year-to-date sales total 86,026 vehicles -- a 22.2 percent increase from 2003.

Mazda's stellar month was led by its sporty MAZDA6 as the all-new MAZDA6 5-Door and Sport Wagon began arriving in dealerships in April. Mazda's flagship posted sales of 5,117 vehicles -- up 14.2 percent from a year ago.

The company's strong April also included impressive sales of its all-new MAZDA3. The media-lauded sport compact also has continued to impress at dealerships, selling a total of 24,024 vehicles since the beginning of the year -- 7,335 vehicles in April alone.

"With monthly sales increases like the ones we've enjoyed for more than half a year, Mazda is poised to enter the summer selling season with the kind of momentum most automakers dream about," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. "Mazda's new product introductions clearly have been well received by consumers as demonstrated by our consistently strong sales performance, including our year-to-date sales pace."

Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer parts and services support of Mazda vehicles in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 700 dealerships nationwide.
