Stremme Posts Solid Finish in California
Ontario, CA (May 1, 2004) – David Stremme and the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge qualified
33rd for this weekend’s race at California Speedway. Stremme was quick from
the drop of the green, advancing five positions in the first three laps. Team
TRIMSPA adjusted Stremme’s Dodge during the first half of the race, attempting
to mend a loose handling condition at the exit of the turns.
“We chased the handling of the TRIMSPA Dodge this weekend,” said Stremme. “
By the end of the race we were able to run with the top 10 to 15 cars, but we
just never had any luck getting the ‘lucky dog’ pass.”
Stremme, who had fallen a lap down by the time the third caution came out on
lap 65, spent most of the race competing to be the coveted first position one
lap down in order to earn the ‘Lucky Dog’ pass back onto the lead lap.
Despite holding onto the spot for up to 40 laps over two green flag runs, the
cautions never fell in Stremme’s favor. The leaders would eventually reach the tail
end of the field putting more cars a lap down by the time the next caution
came out. Team TRIMSPA ended the day in the 26th position, lowering Stremme three
spots in the Busch Series points to the 20th position.
“We will just take this finish and build from it,” said Stremme. “I am
really excited about going to Gateway next weekend. That is a track where I really
think we can run well. With a little luck we will get Team TRIMSPA back on top
of the leader board.”
Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will look to build on this week’s performance when
the Busch Series visits Gateway International Speedway for the Charter 250 next
Saturday. The race will be televised live Saturday, May 8th, at 7:30 p.m.
eastern time on FX and will broadcast nationally at that same time on radio
stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio Channel
144.
