Warren Johnson Qualifies Tenth in Bristol

Event: Fourth annual O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals
Location: Bristol Dragway
       Bristol, Tennessee
Day/Date: Saturday May 1, 2004

The second day of qualifying for the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN, found few changes on the Pro Stock eliminations ladder, as the weather conditions slowed the "factory hot rods" by several hundredths of a second. However, the day's efforts were not wasted, as Warren Johnson, who qualified 10th based on his 6.860-second, 201.58 mph pass from Friday afternoon, used his final two attempts to work on his tune-up for Sunday.

"Today's conditions were essentially what we'll have tomorrow, giving us a good opportunity to prepare for eliminations. On our two runs today, we concentrated on getting off the starting line and making a smooth run.

"With everyone having a similar amount of power, it comes down to who can get down the racetrack, and it's our job to make sure that we do it better than our competition. We learned a few things today, which we'll apply for tomorrow. The bottom line is that we're going to keep working on this GM Performance Parts Grand Am to make it faster and more consistent."
