Kurt Johnson Will Mount His Bristol Title Defense from Third

Event: Fourth annual O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals
Location: Bristol Dragway
       Bristol, Tennessee
Day/Date: Saturday May 1, 2004

On the strength of his 6.841-second, 201.13 mph pass from Friday evening, Kurt Johnson qualified his ACDelco Cavalier third for Sunday's final eliminations of the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN. .Although Saturday's weather conditions precluded any changes at the top of the Pro Stock line-up, the Johnson crew used their two attempts to fine-tune their set-up for race day, which helped them narrow the areas requiring attention.

"We came here trying to be more consistent, but our car just doesn't like this type of track. We're trying to get it hooked up in the first part of the racetrack, and it's just spinning the tires. The track surface is too coarse, and we can't get a hold of it.

"Although our two runs today were not what we were looking for, it definitely showed us what parts of the car we shouldn't be working on. We know we have other areas to work on, so we'll just put it back to the set-up that was in the car when we arrived here, and tune from there. Fortunately, I have a good idea of what we need to do to get this ACDelco Cavalier back on track, and defend our win from a year ago."
