RAC Auto Windscreens Finds Worst Bank Holiday Traffic Black Spot

CHESTERFIELD, England, April 29 -- - With picture

The stretch of motorway between J10 and J16 on the M25 is officially the worst for congestion in the UK, says RAC Auto Windscreens. The 18-mile route topped the list of top ten Bank Holiday motorway black spots.

A combination of heavy traffic and roadworks along the M25 has contributed to it taking first (J10 to J16 both ways) and second (J23 to 31 clockwise) place in the top ten, with average journey times along those routes set to increase by around an hour. The knock on effect of traffic leaving from the M25 and the M42/ A42 means that the M1 takes third (J6a to J9 northbound) and fourth (J21 - J28 northbound) place.

Though the new M6 Toll road has eased congestion northbound around J4 to J10a, the M6 still takes positions 5, 6, 9 and 10 on the list, with motorists travelling in both directions advised to allow for additional travelling time.

Bill Duffy, Managing Director of RAC Auto Windscreens warned that journeys could take four times longer during peak times this May Day weekend: "Most of the problems occur on major arterial routes, which means that the majority of motorists will probably get caught in some kind of traffic jam this coming weekend."

For those motorists who find themselves stuck in the traditional Bank Holiday queue on Monday, RAC Auto Windscreens is set to come to their rescue with an innovative form of stress relief - In-Car yoga.

Developed with the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Birmingham, In-Car Yoga is a set of simple, calming stretches that can be completed in seconds while the car is completely stationary. The aim is to stimulate blood flow and ease tension.

Says Jayne Orton of the Iyengar Yoga Institute: "Simple yoga techniques such as even breathing and arm stretches can really make the difference when you are stressed and can easily be done when you are stuck in a standstill traffic jam. By taking just a couple of seconds to relax and focus on your breathing, you can calm the entire body down which will help you to concentrate on the journey ahead."

Says Bill Duffy: "Try and plan your journey to avoid the worst hit areas, and always allow plenty of time to get to your destination - but unfortunately, traffic jams are par for the course on a Bank Holiday Monday.

"Our aim is to make life a little easier for those who are stuck by alleviating as much of the strain as possible. A calm driver is a safe driver."

RAC Auto Windscreens will hand out guides to Easy In-Car Yoga at MOTO service stations across the country on Bank Holiday Monday, along with advice on how to stay calm when faced with delays. They will also be giving out copies of the popular In-Car Entertainment games leaflet to children.
