TOKYO, April 27, 2004;Reuters reported that Japanese automobile production
jumped 9.1 percent in March from a year earlier to 1,030,022
vehicles, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said on
Tuesday.
For the full business year to March, production rose 0.3
percent to 10.357 million units.
The following is a breakdown of domestic production figures
for March and the last business year, with percentage changes
from a year earlier:

*Minivehicles have maximum engine displacement of 660cc and
receive preferential tax treatment. Suzuki, Daihatsu, Honda, Fuji
Heavy and Mitsubishi produce 660cc minivehicles. Mazda and Nissan
sell Suzuki-made minicars under their own nameplate.
**The figures exclude output of trucks and buses at Mitsubishi
Motors' Fuso unit, which was spun off in January 2003. Percentage
changes are skewed because year-ago figures are inclusive of the
unit.
