Upcoming Sensors Expo & Conference: Wireless Sensor Networks, Automotive and Medical Applications to Be Featured
WELLESLEY, Mass.--April 26, 2004--Celebrating its 19th year, Sensors Expo & Conference presents another rendition of its outstanding technical education program, taking place June 7-10, 2004 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, MI. Engineers, scientists and managers will have the opportunity to participate in a 4-day conference program featuring discussions on technology and design, industrial applications, intelligent systems, wireless sensing and the business of sensors. For the first time, Sensors 2004 will feature an Automotive Sensor Symposium and a Medical/Biotech Sensor Symposium. The program will feature highly regarded industry experts presenting full- and half-day workshops and over 40 sessions focused on the next wave of sensing innovation."Engineers and executives attending this annual event will discover innovative solutions to their most demanding design and application problems," said Cathy Walters, show director for Advanstar Communications, producers of the Sensors Expo & Conference. "We have developed an event that will truly inspire and intrigue those attending, providing them with essential information to share with their colleagues."
Throughout the entire Sensors conference, engineers and executives will see a recurring theme of advances in wireless sensing technology. Ian McPherson, President of Wireless Data Research Group will present "Wireless Sensors and Integrated Wireless Network Sensor Market Overview," and will discuss how wireless sensors are reaching the industrial marketplace because of a combination of technological and economic driving forces. There will also be a Wireless TechnoTour where attendees can participate in an expert-led guided tour of exhibitors featuring wireless sensing products, applications and solutions.
Sensing applications in automobiles range from the established to emerging and even exotic. The Automotive Symposium is a full day program that will take place on Monday, June 7 and will address the latest developments in sensors-related hardware and software in automobiles. The morning session, led by Randy Frank, President, Randy Frank & Associates, Ltd., a consultant who focuses on power, sensors and automotive electronics, will concentrate on advancements in sensors for established applications including new technologies and developments in currently used technologies that will improve the design of future vehicle systems.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Frank will be joined by Dr. Ian Greshman, Corporate Research & Development, M/A-COM; Alex Kade from General Motors and Glenn Widmann of Delphi. This panel will address the sensor-intensive systems that provide a safety cocoon, 360-degree sensing, for the vehicle. The sensors in these systems detect potential collisions and obstacles anywhere around the vehicle to increase awareness and reaction time for the driver. Early versions of these systems are already appearing on luxury vehicles.
Also, on Monday, June 7, Dr. James P. Smith, Research Analyst, Hinson-Smith Associates, will moderate the Medical/Biotech Symposium: Present & Future Medical/Biotech Sensing. The program will begin with a look at Medical & Biological Sensors and Sensor Systems: Markets and Applications. This session will be followed by a discussion of such topics as: Surgical Robotics; Intracranial Pressure Sensors, Cardiac and Esophageal Sensors; Magnetic Sensors; Noninvasive Diagnosis through Sensors; Minimally Invasive In Vivo Monitoring, Accelerometer-based Monitoring of Physical Exercise and more. Participants in this full-day workshop will join such industry innovators as Dr. Michael Klein, Dr. Abhilash Pandya, and Patrick McAllister of Wayne State University; Dr. Ted Lynch, Luna Innovations; Daniel Wrappe, Triad Semiconductors; Dr. Andrew Muelenaer, Jr., Carilion BioMedical Institute; and Timo Jamsa, Ph.D., University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland.
The technical conference program has been divided into four tracks, including Technology & Design; Industry Applications, Intelligent Systems, and Business of Sensors. The Technology & Design track will focus on system design and implementation issues as well as emerging technologies. The Industry Applications track will feature discussions on sensing technology in real world industry applications from medical/life sciences, telecommunications, manufacturing, consumer products and more. The Intelligent Systems track will cover topics including; data acquisition, smart sensors, wireless sensor networks, connectivity and embedded systems. The Business of Sensors track, which is designed for manufacturers and suppliers, will explore market trends, business advantages, funding and commercialization.
"Our conference advisory board has developed a dynamic conference program that will be both educational and thought provoking," added Ms. Walters. "With more than 100 distinguished speakers and panelists presenting the latest developments in sensor technology and design, engineers, scientists, and managers will gain the most up to date information available." In addition to attending the conference tracks, participants will also have the opportunity to hear from Donald L. Runkle, vice chairman of Delphi Corporation, and Kermit Hoffman, president of GE Infrastructure, both of who will be keynoting at the event.
Several special events are being planned including the Best of Sensors Expo Awards and Networking Reception, a Tour of the Smart Sensors and Integrated Microsystems Laboratories at Wayne State University and the Innovation Theater.
Conferees will also have access to the Sensors Expo & Conference exhibit hall where they can compare and contrast sensor products, systems, and services from the industry's leading suppliers. Engineers and scientists from several labs and research facilities will also provide live demonstrations and briefings on the show floor.
