The first award, "2003 Silver-Supplier of the Year", was presented to Plant 81 for achieving performance excellence and meeting all of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd.'s (TKML) targets in quality, cost and delivery on supply of halfshafts for the Corolla.

Additionally, the Bangalore plant was awarded the "Zero PPM Supplier of the Year" award for 2003 as well as certificates for meeting each of their metrics on quality, delivery and cost.

"Toyota is well known in the automotive industry for its focus on quality," said Robert J. Remenar, president of Delphi Steering. "Having earned Toyota's recognition for quality is an achievement that the Bangalore enterprise and the entire division can be proud of."

While accepting the awards, Khanna remarked, "Being honored by Toyota with this prestigious award recognizes our commitment to competitively deliver quality products to our customers. It is a matter of great pride to be associated with Toyota in India at the beginning of their journey to Excellence."

"We appreciate and thank all members of the Bangalore team for their efforts in keeping Zero PPM throughout the year," said Toyota Kirloskar Motor's managing director, A. Toyoshima, in a congratulatory letter to Delphi Bangalore. "We are sure quality assurance will go a long way in building a competitive and strong business."

Bangalore Plant Manager, Vooruvakili Srinivas, said the plant's yearlong manufacturing performance in 2003 was indeed exemplary. "Toyota has a reputation for being one of the most sophisticated automotive manufacturers in the world. Achieving this recognition of performance wouldn't have been possible without the leadership and engagement of the entire team to pursue Excellence in delivering to our customer."

"It's a testament to this team's desire and ability to meet our customer's needs at a world-class level every single day," Srinivas said. "Like Toyota, we are driven to achieve Excellence in every aspect of our business."

The Bangalore facility manufactures halfshafts, a driveline component that transfers power and torque from the vehicle's powertrain directly to the wheels. Delphi Steering, the corporation's largest single-division supplier to Toyota, has been providing Toyota Kirloskar with 100% of its halfshafts since Corolla production began in December 2002.
