NOTES OF INTEREST: This year's version of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 will mark the 72nd appearance of the ultra popular ARCA RE/MAX Series at Salem Speedway. Salem has been a staple on the RE/MAX Series schedule since 1955 when Jack Harrison won the inaugural event in a Ford. Current point leader and 5-time series champion Frank Kimmel is the all-time Salem winner with 7 victories including 5 consecutive. 3-time series champion Jack Bowsher is next with 5 overall followed by Tim Steele, Les Snow & Ramo Stott who have 4 wins each. This year's entry list includes an interesting balance of veterans and rookies. From the rookie department comes 18-year-old ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series graduate Brandon Knupp who comes off a career-best RE/MAX Series finish of 11th at Nashville. AJ Fike, who drives for '95 series champion Andy Hillenburg, is another rookie coming off a career-best run of 10th at Nashville. Fike also trails Ryan Hemphill by just 2 points in the chase for Rookie of the Year, although Hemphill will not be competing at Salem. Josh Allison, the youngest of the rookie contenders, will make his series debut at Salem. Allison just turned 16 on April 17, just in time to make the minimum age requirement to compete in the series. Other rookies include Sparks, NV driver TJ Bell, 2nd-generation driver David Ragan and Canadian driver Terry Jones. Series veteran Joe Cooksey is scheduled to make his 100th career series start at Salem. Notable RE/MAX Series past winners at Salem include NASCAR Cup champion Bobby Allison, six-time RE/MAX Series champion Iggy Katona & former ARCA national champions Bill Baird, Tracy Leslie, Nelson Stacy, Ron Hutcherson, Ramo Stott, Dave Dayton, Moose Myers, Marvin Smith, Bob Keselowski & Bob Brevak. Other notable ARCA/Salem winners include '52 Indy 500 winner Troy Ruttman, USAC/ARCA stock car veteran Don White and Cup series regular Ken Schrader.
