According to the Governor's Action Plan, several leading auto manufacturers have stated that they can have tens of thousands of competitively priced hydrogen fuel cell cars on the road by the end of this decade if the fueling infrastructure were available. His plan further outlines a public-private partnership to ensure that before 2010 California has a network of stations in place to allow motorists a real choice of cleaner fuels to put in their tanks.
"Governor Schwarzenegger and California continue to demonstrate a leadership role in ushering in a new era for clean transportation," stated Alan P. Niedzwiecki, Quantum's President and CEO. "Quantum was honored to be invited to the signing of the Executive Order and, as a California company, is excited about potential opportunities along the hydrogen highway. We believe that Quantum is well positioned to benefit from the Governor's plan by providing the advanced fuel systems for hydrogen vehicles that will be filled at these stations."
In addition to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, Quantum is working on hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicles under the recently announced $2.3 million contract award from Southern California's South Coast Air Quality Management District.
