WaveMarket and Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Introduce Traffic and Road Speed Determination Using Wireless Carrier Network and Location-Based Alerting Technology
EMERYVILLE, Calif. and SEOUL, April 19 -- Using WaveMarket's WaveAlert technology, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) launches a traffic determination service using real-time GPS location coordinates to provide road speed conditions on every street and road in Seoul, Korea. It is the first service of its kind, offering the most complete and up-to-date traffic coverage of any city in the world.
Typical traffic determination systems are expensive to deploy and monitor and can only provide traffic data for the limited number of roads where sensors and cameras are installed. SMPA provides real-time traffic information for every road in Seoul by using WaveAlert's fully automated location event software to examine location data from GPS-enabled taxicabs and other standard sensory devices in Metropolitan Seoul. WaveAlert's scalable software produces intelligent traffic estimates even for the streets out of coverage using its patent-pending traffic determination algorithms.
WaveAlert is real-time location event software enabling the delivery of alert-based location services that, for example, notify users when a car accident severely affects traffic conditions, a child leaves a safety zone, or an employee arrives late to an important customer job site. SK Telecom recently licensed the WaveAlert to provide wireless alert-based services for their 18.4 million subscribers.
SMPA's service has been an enormous success, receiving more than 13,000 hits per day. Now available on mobile and desktop devices, Seoul commuters can find it at http://www.spatic.go.kr/newsite/eng/traffic/traffic.php .
"WaveMarket's algorithmic ability to solve the monitoring and location data processing issues was unique and we are delighted with the performance of the WaveAlert system," said Byung Jo Lim, President of Neighbor System, the system integrator of the service.
"It's fantastic to see what the road speed is on every road in a city. We are very excited that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency picked WaveAlert to be at the hub of such a groundbreaking service," says Tasso Roumeliotis, WaveMarket's CEO and Founder.
