For Immediate Release
XM Satellite Radio Driver Bryan Herta
Finishes 14th at Phoenix
MOTEGI, Japan (April 17, 2004) -.XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta
finished 14th at the Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series Bridgestone Indy Japan
300 Saturday at Twin Ring Motegi in Motegi, Japan.
Mechanical problems on lap 183 forced Herta to retire early from the event
after he had been running in the top 10 for almost the entire race. The XM
Satellite Radio team went one-lap down about one-third of the way through the
race, but continually battled, running as high as seventh as the first car one lap
down.
Herta's Andretti Green Racing (AGR) teammate, Klein Tools/Jim Beam
driver Dan Wheldon, earned his first IndyCar Series win in dominating fashion,
leading 192 of the 200 laps. Wheldon's win also marks Honda's first win in a
major open-wheel race at the facility it owns in Motegi, Japan. Team 7-Eleven
driver Tony Kanaan made it an AGR one-two finish with his second-place run.
Helio Castroneves finished third. Alpine driver Dario Franchitti finished seventh.
The 88th running of the Indianapolis 500 marks the next event on the
IndyCar Series calendar. Practice begins on Sunday, May 9 with the race on
Sunday, May 30.
Bryan Herta, Driver, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We had something go wrong. I'm not sure what it was. We'll have to look
at the data. But, as disappointed as I am for the XM Satellite Radio crew that we
didn't have a great day, I'm so happy for Dan to get his first win and Honda to
finally get a win here at Twin Ring Motegi. You can't ask for anything more."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"Things were looking pretty good for the XM Satellite Radio team. We
really didn't have the car to win today but Bryan was doing a great job and
working his way up through the field. We are all really happy for Dan on his first
win and we are also happy for Honda on their first win here at Twin Ring Motegi."
