Continental Debuts Next Generation ABS on All-New 2005 Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee in New York

- First Jeep Brand Sport Utility Vehicle with Electronic Stability Program (ESP) -

NEW YORK, April 15 -- Continental's next generation anti-lock brake system, the MK25e, is making its worldwide debut on the all-new 2005 Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee. The 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee was introduced at the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday, April 7th. The MK25e represents the latest in ABS sophistication.

"We're pleased that Chrysler Group has once again chosen to equip the all- new 2005 Grand Cherokee with Continental's electronic brake systems, and our newest ABS system, MK25e," said Bill Kozyra, president and CEO, Continental Teves North America.

The MK25e system is the next evolution of Continental's MK25 Electronic Brake Systems unit and is smaller, lighter and more cost-effective to produce than its predecessor. The system uses electronic sensors along with improved algorithms to provide improved performance while a vehicle's anti-lock brake system (ABS) is enabled. Due to advances in microelectronics, today's anti- lock brake systems offer a significant improvement over those introduced just ten years ago.

The MK25e ABS is designed to prevent the vehicle's wheels from locking during braking, providing the driver increased stability and the capability to continue to steer the vehicle during hard braking. The MK25e also includes traction control, which detects wheel spin and applies the brake at the spinning wheel, effectively transferring torque to those wheels that have traction to effectively increase the vehicle's traction.

Also offered for the first time, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) aids the driver in maintaining vehicle directional stability in severe driving maneuvers on any type of surface. Using signals from sensors throughout the vehicle, the system determines the appropriate brake and throttle adjustments for directional stability of the vehicle.

Studies in Europe, Japan and the United States indicate that electronic stability control significantly improves driver control and reduces the risk of single vehicle crashes by 30-35 percent.

Continental Automotive Systems also will supply the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with brake boosters and master cylinders, wheel speed sensors, and the seat heating modules.

Continental will supply the Jeep Grand Cherokee with anti-lock brakes, traction control system and Electronic Stability Program from its award- winning Morganton, N.C. plant; and the wheel speed sensors from its Silao, Mexico plant. The brake boosters and master cylinders will be manufactured at the company's brand new Las Colinas, Mexico plant. The seat heating modules will be produced at the company's Cuautla, Mexico plant.

With 2003 sales of approximately $13 billion (US), Continental AG is a major supplier of brake systems, chassis components, vehicle electronics, tires and technical rubber products. Continental Automotive Systems' North American operation is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich. For additional information, visit these websites: www.conti-online.com and www.contitevesna.com .
