TEAM 7-ELEVEN'S KANAAN TURNS FASTEST LAP THURSDAY AT MOTEGI

       MOTEGI, Japan (April 15, 2004) - Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan posted a
lap of 203.907 miles per hour and grabbed the top spot on the speed chart as practice
opened for the 2004 Bridgestone Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi in Motegi, Japan.
       Kanaan, who won the most recent Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series event
at Phoenix International Raceway on March 21, circled the 1.5-mile oval in 26.8357
seconds and was the only driver to break the 27-second barrier.
       Kanaan's teammate, Dario Franchitti, was next in the speed rankings with a lap
of 202.374 miles per hour. Franchitti was followed by last year's race winner Scott
Sharp (201.905), Helio Castroneves (201.876) and Buddy Rice (201.662).
       Qualifying for Round 3 of the 2004 IndyCar Series schedule is set for 12:30 p.m.,
local time on Friday (Thursday, 11:30 p.m., EDT). Final practice for the race is slated for
Friday and will begin at 3:45 p.m. (local time).


Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
       "It's always nice to be in the front, but today doesn't really count at all. We did a
lot of work on the car today. The track was very, very green this morning, but it definitely
got better and it will continue to get better for tomorrow and for Saturday. We just need
to keep chasing the track and do our thing. Honda did a great job giving us all the power
we need. We just need to keep up. It's not going to be easy, but it was a good day for
Team 7-Eleven."

       "This is of course a very important race for everyone on the team and at Honda.
Everybody has been working extremely hard to prepare for this race and it looks like
we've got two pretty good race cars at this point. Tony is certainly pretty happy. But, it's
a long, hard race. We've got to make sure we get the 7-Eleven car optimized for race
conditions, so we'll keep working away tomorrow and get ready for Saturday."
