IXYS Introduces the Industry's First Surface Mount High Power MOSFET, 3-Phase Module for Automotive and Electric Vehicle Applications

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--April 14, 2004--IXYS Corporation announces today the availability of a new 3-Phase (Six-pack) MOSFET module rated at 120A at 55V and having a MOSFET Rds(on) of only 3 mohms. This module which utilizes IXYS' advanced ISOPlus(TM) DCB based package technology measures only 30mm x 37.5mm x 5mm providing a new level of integration using SMD assembly for modular solutions in the automotive environment.

The GWM Series MOSFET Module encompasses IXYS' latest innovations of its ISOPlus(TM) isolated base packaging technology called the ISOPLUS-DIL(TM) package. This package features a very high level of integration with up to six power chips in one package and 300A rated power pins. The power and gate control pins exit on opposite sides of this low profile package and can be lead-formed to facilitate printed circuit board layout. One of the major advantages of IXYS' ISOPLUS packages utilizing Direct Copper Bond (DCB) substrates is the excellent junction-to-case thermal resistance and 1000V isolation.

IXYS will also be offering versions of this and other ISOPlus packages with Direct Aluminium Bond (DAB) substrates that will offer even higher levels of temperature cycling and reliability."

The first products available are the GWM160-0055P3 rated for 120A at 90C case temperature and 55V with an Rds(on) of 3.0 mohm and the GWM100-0075P3 rated for 95A at 90C case temperature and 75V with an Rds(on) of 4.5 mohm.

The GWM series is perfectly suited for electric motor and actuator applications in automotive such as electric assist power steering, air conditioning, pumps and active suspension. Other battery applications include golf carts, electric bikes and people movers.
