John Baucom Back for 2004 Season
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 14, 2004) John Baucom will return to the
Motorock Trans-Am Series with a two-car team and a thirst to win. Baucom,
driver of the No. 86 MAP Quality Engineering/Software Toolbox/Bully Dog
Technologies Ford Mustang Cobra, will compete in Trans-Amıs first race of
the 2004 season in Long Beach, Calif. on April 18.
³We are more prepared this year than we were last year and we have
experience at this track,² said Baucom. Baucom, who won the BBS Wheel Most
Improved Driver of the Year award in 2003, has added another car to his
Matthews, N.C. based Baucom Motorsports team. Sophomore driver Joey Scarallo
has teamed with Baucom this year.
Baucom re-skinned the No. 86 car for the 2004 season. The familiar
yellow-and-green color scheme is still present, but the team has re-skinned
their chassis with Mustang bodywork. ³We wanted to be different; there were
too many Jaguars, and some of our sponsors liked the Mustang better.
³We wanted to do more of our own thing,² continued Baucom. Along with a new
body comes a new engine. Baucom is working on the development of the new
current production Ford Mustang Cobra four-cam, four-valve, fuel injected
engine for Trans-Am competition. ³We eventually wanted to do something with
this new engine,² said Baucom.
One of two siblings, Baucom, 32, lives in Matthews, N.C. He manages Baucom
Motorsports and runs his familyıs business, Sports Car Authority, a
successful import specialty car body and repair shop.
