Mother Nature Forces SSP Season Opener to Sunday
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (April 14, 2004) – Due to four days of continuous rain and extremely saturated grounds in the pits and parking areas, officials at the Susquehanna Speedway Park have decided to postpone the highly anticipated season opener scheduled for Thursday night, April 15 until Sunday night, April 18. "The storms passing through the area on Wednesday afternoon finally forced us to move the opener. A tremendous amount of rain has already delayed track prep and even with a sunny day predicted for Thursday, we will not have enough time to prepare it properly," said SSP co-owner, Todd Fisher. "The severe weather also destoryed half of the scoreboard on Tuesday night." On the positive side, by moving the opener to Sunday, 410 Sprint Car teams will not have to change their setups to prepare for the next Thursday evening race on April 22. This should save many teams a lot of prep time and potentially increase the car counts. The Sunday night event will feature the 410 Sprint Cars, Xtreme Enduro Cars and the Central PA Legends Cars Series. Gates open in the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m. Race fans can expect a fast paced 2 ½ hour program each and every night. Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 & older) $10.00; Teens (13-17) $6.00; Children (6-12) $2.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices have been reduced to $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders. A track license is $25.00 for the year.
