Stremme Racing Trimpsa Dodge in Nashville
Lebanon, TN (April 11, 2004) – David Stremme qualified in the fourteenth
position for Saturday’s Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. Stremme’s X32
TRIMSPA Dodge had posted the fourth fastest time in the final practice on Friday
and Team TRIMSPA appeared poised for a top finish.
From the drop of the green Stremme’s Dodge was one of the fastest
cars in the field. Stremme had worked his way up eight positions into the
sixth spot by lap 42 when he radioed to his crew that he had a tire going down.
The resulting unscheduled stop dropped Stremme to the 29th position, two laps
down to the leaders. Stremme began to climb back through the field as other
competitors entered the pits with flats. Team TRIMSPA’s tire woes were not over
however, as Stremme spun due to a flat tire on lap 83.
Stremme’s crew jumped into action to repair minor front-end damage under the
resulting caution. However it was evident when leaving the pits that the X32
TRIMSPA Dodge had lost first gear in the spin, causing the car to stall. Back
on track Stremme restarted in the 31st position and proceeded to pass every car
on his lap, moving the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge up into the 23rd position. By lap
190 he was the fastest car on the track. However, lady luck was finished with
Stremme as his car started to overheat due to bent duct work in the front end.
After several stops to cool the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge, the engine finally expired
at lap 214.
“What a day for the TRIMSPA Dodge,” explained Stremme. “We had
two flat tires, a broken tranny, and a blown engine. But there is no reason to
hang our heads. The car was incredibly fast. We just had the worst luck I have
ever experienced. Obviously the entire field fought tire issues today.”
Stremme finished the day in the 32nd position dropping him two
positions to 14th in the Busch Series points. Stremme and the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge
will look to bounce back when they visit Talladega Motor Speedway for the Aaron
’s 312 in two weeks. The race will be televised live, April 24, at 2:00 p.m.
eastern time on FOX, broadcast nationally on radio stations affiliated with
Motor Racing Network and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
