Readers Vote for Their Favorites and Name the 911 Turbo 'Best Supercar' and 911 Carrera Coupe 'Best GT' in Automobile Magazine's Annual Readers' Choice All-Star Awards

ATLANTA, April 7 -- Automobile Magazine's 3.5 million readers selected the 2004 Porsche 911 Turbo as the 'Best Supercar' and the 2004 911 Carrera Coupe as the 'Best GT' in the magazine's annual Readers' Choice All- Star Awards competition. The winners will be featured in the May 2004 issue, which will be on newsstands on April 13, 2004.

In each January issue, Automobile Magazine publishes a ballot form asking its readers to vote for the best vehicles in 14 categories, with the results of this survey published each May as the Readers' Choice All-Stars. Here is what two readers wrote about the 911 Turbo and 911 Carrera Coupe:

  - 911 Turbo: "This car is the reason state lotteries do so well." - Greg
    Wantin, Saint Clair, Mich.
  - 911 Carrera Coupe: "If we could look so good at forty ... " - Will
    Sable Courtney, Stowe, Vt.

The 2004 911 Turbo features a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that propels the all-wheel drive sports car from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 4.2 seconds. On the test track, the 911 Turbo sprints from a standstill to 99 mph (160 km/h) in only 9.3 seconds and can achieve a top track speed of 189 mph (305 km/h). An optional X50 engine enhancement performance package increases horsepower to 444 (SAE) at 5,700 rpm. Porsche first introduced the current 911 Turbo as a 2001 model.

Porsche unveiled the current 911 Carrera Coupe in 1999. For 2004, a mechanical rear-axle differential lock is now available in the 315-horsepower sports car. This feature, which enhances the car's already amazing traction by locking the rear wheels together, is available only on cars equipped with a manual transmission, optional sport suspension and optional 18-inch wheels. The 911 Carrera Coupe also comes in two new metallic colors: Atlas Gray and Carmon Red.

Porsche recently introduced new 911 Turbo and 911 Carrera siblings - the 415-horsepower, all-wheel drive 2004 911 Turbo Cabriolet, and the 345- horsepower 40th Anniversary 911 Carrera.
