GM North America President Gary L. Cowger to Keynote at NABAS Awards Dinner

DETROIT, April 5, 2004; General Motors' North America President Gary L. Cowger will be the keynote speaker for the National Association of Black Automotive Suppliers' (NABAS) 16th Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet on April 22, 2004 at the Renaissance Center Marriott Hotel in Detroit. This year's theme is "Developing Excellence in Automotive Leadership." General Motors is the corporate sponsor.

NABAS and General Motors have established a lofty goal to top the number of students receiving scholarships this year and raise $200,000 for the NABAS Scholarship Fund. Last year, 12 students each received scholarships and $120,000 was raised for the fund.

"GM remains committed to retaining and growing the most capable minority suppliers," said Cowger. "That is why GM continues to support the NABAS Scholarship Fund. Through our contributions, we are helping provide young African-Americans with an opportunity to pursue their dreams of one day owning and running their own businesses."

All proceeds will provide financial support for scholarships, internships and mentoring for outstanding African-American students who will pursue careers in the automotive industry.

"Without question, the core mission of NABAS is to provide educational opportunities and support for the next generation of African-American automotive executives and we thank General Motors for lending its support to our efforts," said Jim Williams, scholarship dinner co-chair. "We are excited about this year's banquet and the phenomenal opportunity to help launch the automotive careers of our youth."
