AASCO Motorsports Seeks Second SGS Win In First Three Rolex Races

  

ANAHEIM, Calif., April 6, 2004 - Following its popular, come-from-behind
victory in the most recent round of the Grand American Rolex Series at
Homestead-Miami Speedway, SGS class competitor AASCO Motorsports will
bring a more conservative approach to this Saturday's Food City 250. The
team, just as set on winning as it has been all season, will field the
No. 16 AASCO Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry at Phoenix (AZ)
International Raceway (PIR) in the unique nighttime event. The winning
duo of Craig Stanton, Long Beach, Calif., and David Murry, Cumming, Ga.,
will be behind the wheel of the white, red and black machine as it
battles on the 1.5-mile, 11-turn combination oval/ infield road course.
With an eye towards the tight confines of the track, and the large,
multi-class field making-up the third round of the 2004 Rolex Series
season, team owner Dennis Aase has opted to focus on keeping the Porsche
on-track rather than for blinding speed. But, just as the team
focused-on at Miami, the goal is victory. The conservative approach will
most readily be recognized in a more traditional pit strategy that will
not push the envelope as far as the team's daring tactics in stopping in
Florida.

 

The two-hour, 45-minute race can be seen live on the SPEED Channel at 9
pm (ET) on Saturday night. 

 

Dennis Aase: "We've been without racing for a little while so we're
ready to get on down the road and go racing. It's a bit of a bullring
over there [PIR] so we are a little concerned about the slugfest we've
seen at these short tracks in the past. So, with so many cars running,
we're going to take a little more cautious approach this weekend but we
are still looking at winning." 

 

David Murry: "I can't wait to get to Phoenix. It seems like it's been
forever since Homestead and I am anxious to get back driving the AASCO
Porsche with Craig. The Homestead race fell into our laps with the
caution coming out at a perfect time for us. You never know what the
outcome will be until the checkered flag drops and that's what makes
this racing so exciting. There are so many great teams, all of which
could easily win."

 

Craig Stanton: "I'm looking forward do the challenge of Phoenix. It is
always a great place to come and race. It is a challenge because you're
always looking for grip and forward bite. You are looking for speed
going through the banking in NASCAR [turn] three and four but you have
some tight turns in the infield. Traffic is going to play a big part as
well. It is going to be good theater at night. Should be a great show
for the fans and I am looking forward to that as well."
