Stremme Bounces Back from Mid-Race Flat to Finish 27th

Grapevine, TX (April 3, 2004) – David Stremme and the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge
qualified 16th for this weekend’s O’Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. Stremme
was making his first start at the 1.5-mile oval. He practiced as quickly as
sixth in the prerace practice sessions.
At the drop of the green Stremme fought a loose handling
condition when running on sticker tires. After several laps the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge
became tight when exiting the turns. Stremme held strong in the 17th position for
the first 100 laps, as Team TRIMSPA rattled off a 14.8 second pit stop on lap
35 to maintain their track position.
Bad luck struck Team TRIMSPA on lap 107 when Stremme radioed the
crew that the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge had a tire going down. As a result of the
unscheduled green flag pit stop Stremme was relegated to the 34th position, two
laps down. Out of contention for the win but up to speed with the leaders,
Stremme continued to fight for each spot. By lap 140 he was up to 31st position.
During the closing laps, after a red flag condition on lap 196, Stremme passed
four cars in the final five laps to finish 27th.
“The TRIMSPA Dodge was a handful today,” admitted Stremme. “For
the first time all year we were just a little off the mark. We are going to do
some more testing at the mile-1/2 tracks and make sure that we are better
prepared next time.”
The 27th-place finish dropped Stremme out of the Top 10 in Busch
Series points to the 12th position. However, Team TRIMSPA is only 23 points
out of the Busch Series top 10.
“I was just tight off all day and really loose driving into the
turns when I was on sticker tires,” said Stremme. “We were really looking for
another top finish this weekend. It just was not in the cards.”
Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will look to be back on top when the
Busch Series visits Nashville Superspeedway next weekend. The event will be
broadcast live, April 10, at 3:00 p.m. eastern time on FX and MRN radio. The Pepsi
300 will be the first Busch race of 2004 that is not in combination with the
Nextel Cup Series. Stremme finished seventh at Nashville just one year ago in
his first career Busch start, and came back to finish third there later in the
season.
“I have tested a lot at Nashville Superspeedway in the off-season
for Ganassi,” said Stremme. “I have logged more laps there than at any other
track. Team TRIMSPA has had some unfortunate luck the past two races and I can
’t think of a better place to turn that around than Nashville.”
