GM Announces Manufacturing Management Moves
Detroit, Mich. - GM officials today announced the following leadership changes within the North American Manufacturing organization, effective May 1, 2004:
Steven C. Finch, plant manager of the Grand Blanc, Mich., Metal Center will become director of Future Programs, Die Engineering Integration for GM's Metal Fabricating Division (MFD), replacing the retiring Bob McCauley.
Daniel L. Welton, plant manager of the Pittsburgh, Pa., Metal Center, will become the plant manager of the Grand Blanc Metal Center, replacing Steve Finch.
Scott E. Mitchell, assistant plant manager of the Pittsburgh Metal Center will assume responsibility for the Pittsburgh Metal Center as plant manager, replacing Dan Welton. Steven C. Finch, began his GM career in 1976 as a college co-op student with Chevrolet in Buffalo, N.Y. He transferred to the Flint, Mich., Assembly plant in 1978 and held various production assignments prior to being named a senior plant engineer at Buick City. In 1990, Finch transferred to the Truck & Bus Group where he held various positions of increasing responsibility. In 1995, Finch was named operations manager for the GMT 700 program, and later he became the program manufacturing manager for midsize trucks. In 1996, Finch was promoted to executive director of Manufacturing Information Systems with the Vehicle Development Technical Operations Group in Warren, Mich. He joined MFD in 1998 as director of Metal Fabricating Information Systems, becoming the plant manager of Grand Blanc in 2001. Finch holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from GMI (now Kettering University). Daniel L. Welton, began his GM career in 1966 with the Fisher Body Division in Flint. From 1974 to 1989, Welton held positions of increasing responsibility in Welding, Manufacturing, Quality Control, and Maintenance with Fisher Body and the former AC Spark Plug Division in Grand Blanc, Warren and Kalamazoo Mich. In 1989, Welton served as plant manager for AC Rochester in Gennevilliers, France. In 1993, he returned to Flint, serving as plant manager for various AC Rochester plants, later serving as manager of Manufacturing Effectiveness. In 1995, he was named assistant plant manager at the MFD Grand Blanc Metal Center, transferring to Flint Metal Center in 1997 in the same capacity. He was named plant manager of MFD Pittsburgh in 1999. Welton holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in industrial management from Central Michigan University.
Scott E. Mitchell, began his GM career in 1993 with BOC Grand Blanc as a manufacturing engineer. He continued to hold positions of increasing responsibility in Production and Maintenance. In 2000, Mitchell was appointed assistant plant manager at the Pittsburgh Metal Center. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois and a master's of business administration from Oakland University.
