Vibracoustic North America Contributes to Overall Ride of the 'World's Fastest Production Pick-Up Truck'
PLYMOUTH, Mich., March 29 -- How do NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) components supplied by Vibracoustic North America help a truck set a new speed record? While the components don't actually boost speed or power, they do help improve ride and handling and keep the driver comfortable -- even at record-setting speeds.
Vibracoustic N.A., the vibration control business of Freudenberg-NOK, supplies a specially designed jounce bumper and snubber bumper for the Dodge Ram SRT-10 -- recently named the Guinness Book of World Records world's fastest production pick-up truck after posting an average speed of 154.587 mph over a "flying kilometer."
In order to fulfill the special NVH needs for this speedy platform, Vibracoustic used high-performance microcellular urethane (MCU) for the jounce bumper and snubber bumper. As an alternative to rubber, MCU provides predictable and repeatable high and low temperature performance, as well as superior chemical resistance. It is also light weight, fully ozone resistant and offers high-volume compressibility and low compression set.
The taller MCU jounce bumpers used on the Dodge Ram SRT-10 help stabilize handling at higher speeds, reduce roll acceleration, improve vehicle balance and generally reduce vehicle understeer. The snubber bumper, used in the spring package, adds forward bite to the system and also increases the spring rate at maximum travel.
"We are proud to add a little bit of our NVH expertise to this exciting and record-breaking vehicle," said Pierre Abboud, president of Vibracoustic N.A. "Our MCU components used on the Dodge Ram SRT-10 demonstrate our strong commitment to research and our dedication to offer customers unbeatable vibration control technology."
A leading supplier of vibration control products and North America's leading producer of microcellular urethane NVH components, Vibracoustic North America offers NVH design solutions and a broad portfolio of components and packages, including engine, body and cradle mounts; jounce bumpers; and through its Vibration Control Technologies, LLC joint venture torsional vibration dampers. It also offers unique capabilities for complete noise path analysis, an intense focus on analytical techniques and an expanded product line that includes suspension air springs, conventional and hydraulic chassis bushings, dynamic tilgers and other innovative NVH components.
