LXE Improves its Leadership Position in Vehicle-Mount Computers with the Introduction of the VX5

ATLANTA, March 29 -- LXE Inc., a leading manufacturer of rugged wireless computers that improve the performance of supply-chain execution applications, today announces the introduction of the fully rugged, full-screen VX5 vehicle-mount computer. The VX5 comes with a Pentium III processor, making it one of the most powerful vehicle-mount computers in its class -- and also one of the toughest. With its impact-resistant aluminum casting, and IP66 water seal rating, the unit will easily handle the nastiest industrial environment.

The VX5 is also simple to operate. It's available with your choice of familiar Windows(R) operating systems -- Windows 2000 Professional or XP Professional. It also comes with a large and easy-to-read, 12.1 inch TFT indoor or outdoor display for maximum visibility in any lighting condition.

"The unit really zips through applications with its Pentium III processor," says Doug Brown, LXE Senior Product Manager, "and we've designed the monitor so that the display goes all the way to the edge of the product -- so you get 12.1 inches of viewing in a compact package which eliminates the difficulties associated with mounting traditional 12 inch units. The VX5 has really raised the bar in standard features that others only offer as options."

According to David Krebs, AIDC Group Manager for Venture Development Corporation, "The VX5 complements LXE's industry leading vehicle-mounted computing solution portfolio. Addressing critical durability, communications and user-control requirements, and incorporating new design features such as a back-up UPS battery system and the Ram Mount bracket, the VX5 is setting a new standard for vehicle-mounted solutions."

The VX5 supports LXE's RFTerm(TM) multi-session terminal emulator, so customers can easily and cost-effectively run legacy terminal emulation applications (ANSI VT220, TN3270, TN5250). When the time is right to migrate your application to a Windows GUI or browser based design, there is no new hardware to buy.

The VX5 is also 802.11g-ready. When you're ready to upgrade to 802.11g, all you will need to do is swap out the computer's radio. With the VX5 supporting RFTerm and being 802.11g-ready, you will be able to use your VX5s longer, which results in a better return on your initial hardware investment.

As always, the VX5 is supported by LXE's award-winning Customer Support team, winner of the Mobile Star Award(TM) for best customer service in mobile hardware for the second consecutive year.
